Possible Plot Details For JURASSIC PARK 4

While it was disappointing to hear that Universal was slowing Jurassic Park 4 down by postponing its previously announced 2014 release to 2015 (what a summer it will be), it is hopefully a sign that they really want to get this dino-film just right. One reason for the delay was said to be that director Colin Trevorrow’s (Safety Not Guaranteed) rewrite of the script involved a much larger scope than had been previously anticipated, and so the production needed more time to ready the shoot. Sounds like nothing but good things so far. Now a rumored plot synopsis has landed online, and it’s definitely an ambitious scale for the dinosaur-laden franchise entry.

While the previous three entries have all centered on pissed off dinosaurs running amuck amidst relatively remote locations (save for the underrated San Diego sequence in The Lost World), if this purported plot synopsis is to be believed, we’re going to be seeing some rather crazy commotion in JP4. According to the good people over at JoBlo, the sequel will actually involve that fully functioning amusement park that so many entrepreneurs have tried to get off the ground in the previous films:

JURASSIC PARK 4, set in present day Isla Nublar, is now an actual theme park, as originally intended by John Hammond in the first film. It garners 10 million visitors per year and is completely safe – until it’s not. The park itself is described as very Sea World-esque and includes an area called the Isla Nublar Lagoon. That means underwater dino’s for the first time. No indication of what kind, but there’s concept art showing one of the aquatic dino’s, as part of a show, jumping out of the lagoon and eating a strung up great white shark like it was a fish for a dolphin at sea world.

The report claims that the film will include “tamed” dinosaurs as part of the park’s attractions, with the Velociraptors actually aiding the film’s heroes to combat a brand new dinosaur that turns out to be much smarter than originally thought. So Jaws 3 but with dinosaurs (which sounds pretty awesome to me). Again, this plot synopsis has yet to be confirmed, but the synopsis isn’t a stretch when you factor in that Rise of the Planet of the Apes scribes Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver are behind the screenplay. It’s also in keeping with Trevorrow’s previous hint that the film takes place on Isla Nublar.

If it’s true, this sounds like a great film. Now the hungry dinos will have plenty of people to snack on. Steven Spielberg is apparently working with Trevorrow and producers right now on the script for Jurassic Park 4 before he goes off to make his next film, and with a 2015 release date planned, we should start to hear more firm word about the pic soon with filming likely to get underway late this year or early next year.
