Poltergeist Casting Round-Up

MGM’s reboot of 80s classic, Poltergeist, got two new cast members this past week so I guess this is still happening. The first being Jared Harris (Mad Men) who will play an outgoing TV personality who hosts a reality show called “Haunted House Cleaners” which, aside from being the worst TV show name ever, sounds a little like Peter Vincent from Fright Night. I do enjoy Jared Harris and I was sad to see his character, Lane Pryce, exit Mad Men a few season’s back so I’m actually kind of happy with this casting.

On the other hand, the most recent casting decision is less than exciting. Kyle Catlett of The Following has been cast as one of the Bowen family’s children. Now, I don’t really have anything against the actor but he is in The Following and that just sours me towards it to begin with. I’m sure Catlett will do fine in whatever role they cast him as.

The story follows the Bowen family, whose life is suddenly disrupted after a supernatural force takes over their home and begins terrorizing them.

Nicholas Braun of The Wrap is also in talks with the studio to play a grad student who goes to the Bowen’s home to document the supernatural activities plaguing their home. Which really makes me hope they aren’t going to take this in the found footage direction, that would be a drag.

Sam Rockwell and Rosemarie DeWitt have already been cast and Gil Kenan is set to direct. Very little has been released about the plot and direction but what I have gathered is it will follow a different family that will suffer from poltergeist activity. Stay tuned for more updates as the cast fills up and production starts.
