Phillip Seymour Hoffman officially joined the cast of The Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire.  He will be playing Plutarch Heavensbee, the Game Master for the 75th annual Hunger Games. Catching Fire is slated to be released next November, and should begin filming later this year. Still no official word on the anticipated casting of fan favorites Finnick Odair or Johanna Mason. Rumor is that Jena Malone is the front runner to play Johanna, but casting rumors for Finnick have run the gambit from Robert Pattinson to Taylor Kitsch.  One thing is for sure, whenever they do cast Finnick the internet will explode with complaints. Lionsgate also released their official synopsis for the film in the same press release;

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark.   Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) — a competition that could change Panem forever.

What do you think about Phillip Seymour Hoffman’s involvement?  Who do you think should play Finnick?  Let us know.
