Peter Dinklage to be the villain for X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

X-Men: Days of Future Past just keeps getting better. The film only got stronger earlier when Emmy-winner Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) joined the film. While it was speculated that he would be playing the Alpha Flight character “Puck”, we’ve recently learned that Dinklage has landed the villain role. The film also stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, and Hugh Jackman. X-Men: Days of Future Past opens July 18, 2014.

According to Variety, Dinklage will play the “main antagonist”. No word on whether he’ll be the only bad guy, but past X-Men films have had a main bad guy and then powerful underlings. At the very least, we know that the Sentinels will be a “big feature” of the story.

So who will Dinklage play? Devin Faraci over at Badass Digest made the argument that the villain could be Mr. Sinister (yes please). Even though Sinister doesn’t factor into the Days of Future Past comic book, Singer isn’t being completely faithful with the original source material. Devin argues, Sinister could be a neat stepping stone to Apocalypse (double yes).

Another popular theory has Dinklage playing Bolivar Trask, the creator of the Sentinels. The Sentinels will probably be the major foe because we can only see mutants fighting mutants so many times. The sentinels lack personalities, so a great actor like Dinklage could provide an emotional aspect to the threat. It would also be a nice touch that if Trask was Dinklage’s size (he’s not in the comics), then he would devote his life to creating gigantic machines as a way to realize the physical strength and power he lacks.
