It’s been a while since we heard any rumbling about the Flatliners remake.   Back in August of 2011, Source Code writer Ben Ripley was hired to write the screenplay for a remake of Joel Schumacher’s Flatliners, and now Bloody Disgusting reports that The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo director Niels Arden Oplev is attached to direct.  The original film starred Kevin Bacon, Julia Roberts, Oliver Platt, and Billy Baldwin and tells the story of a group of medical students who willingly induce clinical death in order to find out if there’s anything on the other side.

Oplev makes his English-language directing debut next month with the thriller Dead Man Down starring Colin Farrell and Noomi Rapace, and he’ll also be directing the pilot for CBS’ TV series adaptation of the Stephen King novel Under the Dome.

For a treat, here’s the original trailer for the 1990 film.
