NYCC 2013 – All-New Marvel NOW and Inhumanity

Yesterday, we finally got the answers to several of the teasers that Marvel, um, teased prior to New York Comic Con. However, going into Saturday, there were still several that hadn’t been addressed.

Until the All-New Marvel NOW and Inhumanity panel took place, that is! Several more of the teasers were revealed, as well as information about two of the biggest events coming from Marvel, Inhumanity and the Ultimate Universe’s Cataclysm.

In regards to Inhumanity, Marvel Editor-In-Chief Axel Alonso emphasized that this wasn’t going to be a situation that resolves itself quickly. When it comes to the Inhumans, Alonso explains that “there are a lot of them, and they’re here to stay.” Marvel has big plans to bridge the gap between their Earth-based heroes and the cosmic side of the Marvel universe, as we can see with Infinity and Guardians of the Galaxy, and the Inhumans are going to cement this endeavor.

Inhumanity will begin this December, with Inhumanity #1Inhumanity will also include several tie-ins, some we’ve seen before, and some new ones like Inhumanity: Medusa and Inhumanity: Spider-Man.

Cataclysm, the event encompassing the entire Ultimate line, was briefly discussed as well. I say briefly, because that portion of the panel was turned over to Editor Mark Panicca, who started to discuss it, then got emotional and walked out! While I expect that was more show than reality, the message was clear: the Ultimate line is clearly ending. If that wasn’t confirmation enough, Panicca was later asked by a fan (after he returned) about which part of Cataclysm would be handled by each book. His response was essentially “Galactus is going to destroy the Earth, so they’ll all be dealing with that.” Sorry, Ultimate fans: looks like the end times are here.

Of course, Marvel isn’t just about events. The new year also brings the beginning of All-New Marvel NOW, which will be kicked off with two outstanding new titles, Inhuman and All-New Invaders. Both titles will focus heavily on the post-Infinity world, with Inhuman giving us all-new characters, and All-New Invaders bringing back the first super-team to prevent the Kree from recovering a device that lets them control Asgardians.

Now, let’s reveal the teasers, shall we?

Defend – Nope, it’s not a new Defenders book! This turned out to be Iron Patriot #1, a book that finally gives James Rhodes a time to shine. Spinning out of Secret Avengers, something is going to happen that drives Rhodey to decide he needs to defend the homeland his own way, and this is the book where he’ll do it.

Rad – This one was possibly the most obvious of all of the teasers. Silver letters spelling Rad? What could it be besides Norrin Radd, AKA the Silver Surfer! Sure enough, that’s exactly what it is, but the book itself was still surprising. Dan Slott and Mike Allred will come together to produce a stellar love story, which has an intensely silver-age feeling to it.

Overdrive – This was definitely the biggest surprise of the panel, and maybe of all the teasers so far. This referred to a brand new Ghost Rider series, featuring a new Rider that several panel members described as something we’ve “never seen before.” In fact, several of them said this was the book they were most looking forward to, and personally, I think I have to agree.

Clearly, there is a lot to be excited about coming from the mighty house of Marvel. Anything from this panel you can’t wait for? Let us know below!
