Fans expecting to see new footage from Star Wars: The Force Awakens during the Lucasfilm panel at D23 this weekend will be sorely disappointed. Since J.J. Abrams neglected to unveil a new trailer during the film’s Comic-Con panel in July, many assumed Lucasfilm was simply holding it for an unveiling at Disney’s own Comic-Con-esque convention, D23. That doesn’t appear to be the case, as Abrams confirms to EW that no footage of any kind will be shown this weekend:

“It is true, we are showing no footage, behind the scenes or otherwise. In the fall, there’ll be a trailer.”

Abrams added that he’s thrilled to go to D23 and meet with fans this weekend, but it would’ve been tricky to rush footage for a convention. And that’s totally fine. In fact, I’d be thrilled if I didn’t star-wars-comic-con-2015-panel-17-600x419see any more footage from Star Wars until the film’s release date. I know I’m going to see the movie—as are many, many other people—so why not wait and go in as fresh as possible?

Of course that’s not how our culture works, and it’s not how the film world works either, so in an effort to get as many people to the theater in December as possible, Disney will release a new trailer this fall, per Abrams.

But in speaking with EW, the filmmaker also provided a tiny update on the post-production process for The Force Awakens, specifically talking about the editing:

“I’m still editing and we’re working on refining the cut, but it’s incredibly fun to see the movie come together. You realize certain things that you don’t need, certain things you can pull out.”

Here’s hoping the deleted scenes land on the Blu-ray. No doubt fans will want to soak up every possible piece of material from the first Star Wars film of the new era.
