Marvel just dropped a new trailer for Thor: The Dark World. Director Alan Taylor’s sequel finds Thor, once again played by Chris Hemsworth,  squaring off against the villainous dark elf Malekith the Accursed (Christopher Eccleston).  The trailer is a shorter, rearranged version of what was shown at Comic-Con, but lacks a little pizzazz.  I’m not thrilled with Natalie Portman’s character pulling a Lois Lane and getting involved in a quest she has no business being on.  I am sure they will pull some nonsense about her being the only on who can decipher something to realign the universe.  It wouldn’t be such a bad story crutch if they weren’t also using it to bring back the ridiculously popular Loki, once again played by Tom Hiddleston.  Becasue only he knows… blah blah blah. Justin called it out on one of our latest podcasts that they still haven’t really shown us the main villains, this trailer continues that trend, although you see Eccleston’s face in the lower right corner for about half a second near the end. There’s loads of stuff blowing up, and a fun “Cairo Swordsmen-esque” moment at the end of the trailer.  Here’s to hoping that this film will be every bit as awesome as it’s predecessor.

The film also stars Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, Jaimie Alexander, Rene Russo, and Anthony Hopkins.  Thor: The Dark World opens in 3D on November 8th.

Official synopsis for Thor: The Dark World:

Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s Thor and Marvel’s The Avengers, Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.
