Disney has released a new full-length trailer for director Robert Stromberg’s upcoming film Maleficent.  The film tells the story of how the Sleeping Beauty villain became went bad.  Angelina Jolie plays the titular character, a woman whose betrayal sets off a drive of revenge and a fierce desire to protect the moors over which she presides.  I had to watch the original trailer again to see just how much of the footage was new, and it turns out not a ton. The end makes up for it, and answers my biggest question for the film, will we see Dragon-Maleficent?

The film also stars Elle Fanning, Sharlto Copley, Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple, and Lesley Manville.  Maleficent opens in 2D and 3D on May 30th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Maleficent:

“Maleficent” explores the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the classic “Sleeping Beauty” and the elements of her betrayal that ultimately turn her pure heart to stone. Driven by revenge and a fierce desire to protect the moors over which she presides, Maleficent cruelly places an irrevocable curse upon the human king’s newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Aurora is caught in the middle of the seething conflict between the forest kingdom she has grown to love and the human kingdom that holds her legacy. Maleficent realizes that Aurora may hold the key to peace in the land and is forced to take drastic actions that will change both worlds forever.

Angie looks great – although I’m not crazy about the latex headpiece, she sounds like Maleficent too, but if she flubs this role I don’t know that I can ever forgive her. Lara Croft she may be, but the greatest Disney villain of all time? we’ll see.
