A new poster for director Sam Raimi’s Oz the Great and Powerful has been released. The Wizard of Oz prequel centers around a circus magician with questionable motives (James Franco) who gets whisked away to the land of Oz and finds himself in the middle of a battle between the three witches Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams). The new poster showcases the film’s green-skinned Wicked Witch, played by Weisz.

The film also stars Zach Braff and Abigail Spencer. Oz the Great and Powerful opens on March 8th, 2013.

Official synopsis;

Disney’s fantastical adventure “Oz The Great and Powerful,” directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

“Oz The Great and Powerful” is produced by Joe Roth and written by Mitchell Kapner and David Lindsay-Abaire (credit not final). Grant Curtis, Philip Steuer and Palak Patel are serving as executive producers. “Oz The Great and Powerful” opens in U.S. theaters on March 8, 2013.

What do you think. I’m looking forward to seeing what Raimi can do with this.

      That poster looks pretty rad. Every time I read news about this movie I want to see it more and more. I'm not too sold on Franco but I definitely love the idea of this movie. Do you guys remember Return to Oz? So terrible.

      • Haha yeah I didn't care to watch this movie until I saw this poster. There is just something about it that got me intrigues me. Rachel Weisz is one hot mama and she might have a lot to do with my excitement.

        Oh and Yes I have seen Return to OZ. That movie is so bad haha. All I remember is it's against the law to have a chicken and there was a some robot dude that was soldier or something. He even had some spinning action. There may have been some baddies with wheel hands too but I forget. Oy, now I want to watch it again.
