Sony announced some big plans for its Spider-Man universe by way of Venom and Sinister Six films late last night, but first on the docket is director Marc Webb’s sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2.  A new international trailer has gone online, and it plays up the more comedic aspects of the film instead of focusing on the multitude of villains like the first domestic trailer.  The strongest aspect of Webb’s 2012 reboot was the smaller character moments, and I hope that’s explored further in this follow-up. One of my favorite moments in this trailer comes near the end when Gwen Stacy insists on accompanying Spider-Man.

The film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Dane DeHaan, Sally Field, Paul Giamatti, Felicity Jones, B.J. Novak, and Chris Cooper.  The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D on May 2, 2014.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Amazing Spider-Man 2:

In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.
