I’m still confused as to who Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is geared toward. On one hand they are clearly going for The Transformers crowd with a lot of action and teen-centric humor, and why should’t it; as of this post Transformers: Age of Extinction is just shy of $900 million worldwide. On the flip side the marketing seems to be drawing heavily from the Nickelodeon part of the franchise that airs the Turtles new animated adventures. My worry is that they will try to satisfy both camps while alienating both. Little kids will be scared and turned off to the violence, while big kids (adults included) will find the humor and story a little childish. I would be ecstatic if they were able to meld both worlds, and give me the kick-ass TMNT movie I’ve been waiting years to see, but we will have to wait and see.

In the new live-action iteration, a city is in the iron grip of Shredder (William Fichtner) and the Foot Clan, and it’s up to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, along with the help of reporter April O’Neil (Megan Fox) and her cameraman Vern Fenwick (Will Arnett), to stop Shredder and save the day. The film also features the voices of Johnny Knoxville and Tony Shalhoub and opens in theaters on August 8th.
