Empire released 25 character covers celebrating X-Men: Days of Future Past and now they have released four new stills from the film. The story finds Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) having his consciousness sent back to 1973 in order to help Professor X (James McAvoy), Magneto (Michael Fassbender), and the rest of the X-Men: First Class crew stop the rise of the Sentinels, giant robots programmed to exterminate mutants.  As you can see from the image showing Wolverine, he still has his bone claws.  That’s because young William Stryker (played by Josh Helman) hasn’t started up the Weapon X program yet. It’s those kind of little details that give me a lot of hope about the film, and it serves as a nice way to separate future Wolverine from past Wolverine.

The film also stars Jennifer Lawrence, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Nicholas Hoult, Halle Berry, Patrick Stewart, and Ian McKellen.  X-Men: Days of Future Past opens in 3D on May 23rd.

Here’s the official synopsis for X-Men: Days of Future Past:

The ultimate X-Men ensemble fights a war for the survival of the species across two time periods in X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. The beloved characters from the original “X-Men” film trilogy join forces with their younger selves from “X-Men: First Class,” in an epic battle that must change the past – to save our future.
