Crystal Lake Entertainment has announced that they are working on a new game based on the Friday the 13th film franchise. The game will be a cooperative and competitive multiplayer game where one player will take control of Jason Voorhees terrorizing a small group of survivors.

Although Crystal Lake Entertainment has creative control over the Friday the 13th franchise and will be involved in the games development, CEO and founder Sean S. Cunningham said that an experienced developer is not only working on the game, but can be expected to be released this year, targeting October 2015. It is set to come out on multiple consoles.

In an interview with EGM, Cunningham spoke about the game and the ideas behind it.

“With a new television series on the horizon and plans announced for the thirteenth installment of the film franchise, we felt the timing was right to finally explore Jason, Camp Crystal Lake, and the rest of the Friday the 13th story in interactive form. We have some exciting new ideas for a game that supplies plenty of replay value, while delivering the kinds of thrills and scares that fans of the franchise have come to expect.”

This will be the first officially licensed game in the franchise and will also include references and nods to the upcoming television series set in the same universe. Hopefully this will provide a better Jason experience than the 1989 NES game with it’s broken mechanics and poor game play.
