The Weinstein Company has released a new The Giver clip from director Philip Noyce’s adaptation of the Lois Lowry novel, this time featuring Taylor Swift.  I’m still not sure what to make of the film as a whole. I never read the book, but hear nothing but good things about it, but the promotional material seems to be aimed directly at The Hunger Games crowd.  I’m not sure if this is simply a case of getting audiences into the theater or if the trailers are really indicative of the film.  For those unfamiliar, the story takes place in a utopian society where all memories of the past reside with a sage figure known as “The Giver”.  This new clip shows Jeff Bridges’ Giver character talking about the previous recipient of his memories (Swift), revealing a musical hologram of the two.

The film also stars Brenton Thwaites, Meryl Streep, Alexander Skarsgard, Katie Holmes, Cameron Monaghan, and Odeya Rush.  The Giver opens in theaters on August 15th.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Giver:

The haunting story of THE GIVER centers on Jonas, who lives in a seemingly ideal, if colorless, world of conformity and contentment. Not until he is given his life assignment as the Receiver of Memory does he begin to understand the dark, complex secrets behind his fragile community. The film is based on Lois Lowry’s beloved young adult novel of the same name, which was the winner the 1994 Newbury Medal and has sold over 10 million copies worldwide.
