New Clip from DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES Hints at the Film’s Darker Tone

It was always clear that Dawn of the Planet of the Apes would be darker than Rise of the Planet of the Apes.  Post-apocalyptic movies tend to be a bit of a downer.  However, a new Dawn of the Planet of the Apes clip shows something that’s not just dark, but slightly disturbing.  The clip features the ape Koba (Toby Kebbell), who you may recall wasn’t quite as forgiving as Caesar when it came to humans in Rise of the Planet of the Apes.  As this clip shows, Koba’s attitude hasn’t changed, but he’s become far more devious.  I almost wish Fox had kept this clip under wraps, but since they already showed some of it in the recent trailer, I suppose there’s no reason to keep it in the bag. I just hope that the marketing department doesn’t spoil too much like our friends over at The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

The film opens in 3D on July 11th, and also stars Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, Keri Russell, Gary Oldman, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Kirk Acevedo, Enrique Murciano, and Judy Greer.

Here’s the official synopsis for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes:

A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.
