New Assassin’s Creed in 2014

Warning: some spoilers for Assassin’s Creed III lie ahead.

After the commercial success of Assassin’s Creed III, it only makes sense that Ubisoft is already thinking about the next installment. Although details are hard to come by and we don’t have a whole lot of info on the matter, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot mentioned that a new Assassin’s Creed era will begin in 2014, complete with new hero and setting.

Along with this announcement, Ubisoft mentioned in their quarterly report that Assassin’s Creed III sold over 12 million units, which was a huge improvement over the previous title, Assassin’s Creed Revelations. That’s a lot of dead red-coats. ACIII was a fantastic game that had its issues, but overall it was another solid entry in the franchise. It’s uncertain if the future title will be Assassin’s Creed Initiates, which is hinted at by this ambiguous photo that was released. If you played until the end of ACIII, you already know who is in the body bag, but the rest is up for interpretation.

AC Initiates

Although I’m totally excited for another Assassin’s Creed game, Ubisoft did take time to address some of their other franchises. Ubisoft also talked about fans waiting less than four years for the next Far Cry installment and how the great sales of Far Cry 3 make the franchises future certain. Bottom line, Ubisoft is making bank when you couple these two with Just Dance 4, Rayman Jungle Run for iOS devices and the holiday shooter ZombiU.

What do you Geeks think? If you were to plan the next Assassin’s Creed, what time period would you place it in? I really am hoping for a modern assassin like the Desmond missions in ACIII, so maybe another member of the creed could take center stage? I know in the past feudal Japan has been mentioned as a setting, which would be really interesting and I would welcome it.
