Hey, you know The Sandman? You know, that comic by Neil Gaiman that EVERYBODY loved back in the 90’s. Well guess what, it’s coming back! That’s right, after almost 10 years Neil Gaiman is finally returning to the series that made him a legend in the world of comics.

This October, in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the release of The Sandman, Gaiman and artist J.H. Williams III will be going back to the beginning with The Sandman: Overture. A prequel to the original comic that tells the story of how Morphius was captured before the beginning of the series.

In an interview with the New York Times earlier today, Gaiman called this “The one story we never got to tell. In Sandman #1 Morphius is captured somehow. Later on in the series, you learn he was returning from somewhere far, far away – but we never got to the story of what he was doing and what had happened. This is the chance to tell that story.”

The bi-monthly series will begin on Oct. 30th and will start with an oversized first issue featuring a special interior gatefold. Vertigo will also release special edition versions of each issue on alternating weeks wich will contain bonus features like scripts, concept art, sketches, and Q & A’s with Gaiman and Williams
