MGS5: Ground Zeroes

Konami announced today the Metal Gear Solid 5 prologue Ground Zeroes will be available for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on March 18, 2014. Additionally, Konami released a 15-minute video for the Xbox One version showing a brief walkthrough and difference in game difficulty modes. Some interesting gameplay improvements include: marking enemy targets (humans and weapons), selective intel over the radio, reflex mode, lockpicking, and driving vehicles. Reflex mode looks to be your ultimate life-saving ability which slows down time when an enemy spots Snake, giving players a second to neutralize the threat before things get out of hand.

A few things to note in the video are the subtle details that will no doubt raise the bar for next-gen gaming. Things like super smart A.I., where the enemies adapt to the situation making the game more difficult and less predictable. You may have noticed when Snake shined the spotlight on the enemy patrols they actually covered their eyes from the blinding glare. How freaking cool is that? Or what about having a directional microphone on your binoculars to listen to conversations. Holy smokes, I can’t wait to play this game!

The Microsoft exclusive for Xbox 360 and Xbox One versions was also announced today. These versions will include the “Jamais Vu” mission, where players assume the role of Raiden and must eliminate “body snatchers,” who have occupied a U.S. Naval facility in Cuba. Don’t forget PlayStation versions of the game will feature the exclusive “Deja Vu” mission, along with a classic Solid Snake skin.

I may have to go with the Xbox One version of Ground Zeroes. The Raiden mission looks way too cool to pass up. At least for this Metal Gear geek. What say you?
