Mass Effect 3: Special Edition for Wii U

How many of you Geeks picked up a shiny new Wii U this past weekend? I’m sure many of you did, and you’re just itching to pick up a game and play. Might I suggest Mass Effect 3: Special Edition for the Wii U?

Mass Effect 3 is one of the launch titles as EA brings one of the best games of 2012 to the Wii U. Originally released back in March for the PS3, Xbox360 and PC, this edition of ME3 is perhaps the most expansive as it includes various amounts of DLC and additional content, essentially for free.

The player gets the “From Ashes” mission, which includes an additional party member and weapons, the controversial “Extended Cut” ending which adds more clarity to the events after ME3 and the multiplayer expansions Resurgence, Rebellion and Earth. While “Leviathan” and the newly announced “Omega” packs were left off the game disc, it has been hinted that they might arrive later, which I find to be an interesting decision. Omega isn’t out yet so that makes sense, but Leviathan has been out for months. You also get “Genesis II,” which is an interactive comic that allows you to experience the story from Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2.

I haven’t had a chance to actually play this edition of ME3, but every other review I’ve seen and all the demo footage suggest that it’s just as much fun as before. Despite all of the backlash and controversy surrounding it, I still find ME3 to be one of the best games I’ve played, and while I wasn’t completely crazy about the ending, I didn’t find it so offensive that I had to denounce Bioware.

I won’t go as far as to say you need to purchase ME3 again for your Wii U, but it might be worth borrowing from a friend just to experience the new changes. I still have all three Mass Effect games on my PC that I’m pretty content with, plus I’m able to transfer my adventure to each new title and expand on my Commander Shepard’s universe.

Any Geeks pick this up? You enjoying it as much as you did the first time? More? Less?

Got my Wii U yesterday and once I'm done with Mario, Zombie U, and Nintendoland this might be worth checking out.

I want to test it out; I loved ME3 and want to see how they programmed it with the GamePad but every demo kiosk I find doesn't allow actual gameplay, just videos and screenshots.

Stephen, I'm thinking you head down my way for a slumber party /Wii U
Demo/ pillow fight. You bring a sleeping bag , I'll provide the Wii U and chloroform… I mean the chips.

      Chloroform chips are my favorite.
