Marvel Teams with Romero for “Empire of the Dead”

If you like zombies, you know the name George A. Romero. Romero is widely considered to be the creator of the zombie genre that has captured the hearts (and brains) of millions; if a title ends with “… of the Dead,” you can assume zombie fans likely revere it.

That being said, it looks like zombie fans are about to have more to revere. Marvel has revealed that Romero will be teaming up with Alex Maleev (Daredevil, Moon Knight) to bring us Empire of the Dead. This five-part miniseries takes place in a quarantined New York City, years after the outbreak of a zombie plague. But just because it’s been quarantined doesn’t mean NYC is safe, meaning you can count on problems of both the undead and still-living variety. (Because as we all know, zombie outbreaks don’t really bring out the best in people.)

The series doesn’t premier until January, but Marvel was kind enough to show us both the regular cover, along with one of what promises to be several variants as well. Dying for more information? Romero himself will be at the Cup O’ Joe panel on Saturday at New York Comic Con, where you can safely assume many more details will be provided.
