Nintendo announced today Mario Kart 8 has crossed the 1 million mark for units sold in the US. Aside from New Super Mario Bros. U, it turns out Mario Kart 8 is only the second game for the Wii U console to hit such an achievement. Nintendo reports Wii U hardware sales have increased by nearly 60 percent through the first seven months in 2014, over the same period in 2013. Meanwhile, during that same time software sales have increased by 135 percent. Not too shabby.

Nintendo has a pretty strong lineup headed our way in 2015, but they still have a few months left to drive sales further with titles like Hyrule Warriors and Super Smash Bros for Wii U. I’m sure some of you out there are excited for Bayonetta 2, but the voice acting has convinced me to sit that one out. However, let’s not forget about Amiibo figures due this holiday season. These adorable little guys will be supported by Super Smash Bros. for Wii UMario Kart 8, and Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker to name a few.
