Machinima debuts trailer for new web short “Enormous”

In 2012, The Hollywood Reporter announced that Adrian Askarieh (Hitman)  and Andre Ovredal (Trollhunter) teamed  up for a major trans-media adaptation of Enormous. The project, based on the graphic novel published by Image, tells how humanity is plunged down the food chain when an ecological event creates gargantuan beasts that decimate civilization. I think I fell off my desk chair when I read this breaking news. I love Ovredal’s Trollhunter. It’s visceral, beautifully shot, and has a very deep mythology for a found footage film. I was excited to see him tackle something more mainstream.

Now the first trailer is here. Ovredal co-wrote the script, but unfortunately did not direct the short. Instead, Machinima brought on BenDavid Grabinski (of the short film, Cost of Living)  to direct instead. Did this swap work out in their favor?

Check out the first trailer below:

What are your thoughts? Personally, I hope this means Ovredal was still working on effects  when they put this promo together. I found this trailer to be really flat and expected. If the short doesn’t exceed expectations, I doubt the series will go forward because this just doesn’t feel like it will pop off the screen. Hopefully, we’ll get to see more when the first full short comes out on March 20th, 2014.
