John Singleton to Direct a Tupac Shakur Biopic

Posted on February 12, 2014 at 7:21 pm by David "Snackbar" Edmundson

Two years ago, director John Singleton was in talks to helm a biopic on the late rapper and Poetic Justice star  Tupac Shakur. That’s about the same time that a holographic Tupac took over the Coachella Music Festival. Singleton was lined up to take over for Antoine Fuqua (Olympus Has Fallen), but there was little news on the project until now.  Variety reports that Singleton has signed on to produce, write and direct the untitled biopic that tells the story of the late rapper’s “rise to [become] one of the most popular hip-hop artists, as well as his untimely murder following a boxing match in 1996 in Las Vegas.”  No one has been cast in the lead role just yet.  Singleton will start work on rewriting the script, with production hoping to begin this June.
