joel edgertonJoel Edgerton (Zero Dark Thirty, The Great Gatsby) has officially signed on to star in Ridley Scott’s Biblical film, Exodus, THR reported today. Edgerton will be playing the role of Ramses, the Egyptian pharaoh who refused to let Moses and his people go! Starring opposite Christian Bale (who’s playing Moses), this is will probably be the most high-profile role that Edgerton has had to date.

Under the wing of 20th Century Fox, Exodus should start shooting within the next couple of months. Much of the production will take place in England, Spain, and Morocco.

I’m not one for Biblical dramas, so I have no horse in this race one way or the other. I do find it a little weird that they’re tapping a white guys to play Egyptians, but I guess that’s Hollywood for you. If a legion of screaming fans couldn’t get M. Night Shyamalan to hire Asian actors for the main roles in Avatar: The Last Airbender, then I doubt Scott will make an effort for historical accuracy in terms of race for his film.
