Jason Statham’s HEAT remake adds Stanley Tucci, Milo Ventimiglia, and Cedric the Entertainer

Simon West’s remake of the 1986 film Heat, with Jason Statham in the Burt Reynolds role, just added to it’s supporting cast. Deadline reports that Statham will be joined by Stanley Tucci, Milo Ventimiglia, Anne Heche and Cedric the Entertainer in the action thriller. It’s important to remember that Heat has nothing to do with Michael Mann’s version starting Al Pacino and Robert De Niro. Instead, it is based on the William Goldman novel that casts Statham as an ex-mercenary and gambling addict working as a bodyguard in Las Vegas.

No mention on whom the new additions will be playing in West’s film. Previous cast members include Sophia Vergara and Michael Angarano, so West has a formidable cast to work with, but most of Heat hangs on Statham. The star has had success lately in The Expendables franchise, and he’s rumored to join the Fast & Furious crew next month, but standalone efforts like Parker and Safe have not had stellar box office runs. Reynold’s Heat was a moderate success, and seems like an odd feature to remake, but perhaps Statham and West see something we don’t. Statham will also produce Heat, which Goldman, who wrote the original film, will also pen. The production begins soon in Las Vegas.
