It looked like J.J. Abrams had hit the geek lotto when he was selected to direct Star Wars: Episode VII a few months ago.  The same director that resurrected the Star Trek franchise was going to oversee it’s major competitor for geek dominance in Star Wars.  Nerd utopia was near, but according to Badass Digest, there are rumors that Abrams is considering dropping out of the project.  Abrams has been vocal about not wanting to set a 2015 release date, not wanting to shoot in England, and other artistic oversight decisions, but Disney and LucasFilm have been quick to stand by there decisions, and let Abrams know who’s boss.  Badass Digest says these rumors will merit more serious consideration if there’s no announcement of any kind at Germany’s Star Wars celebration regarding Episode VII and Abrams isn’t present.  Compounding this decision is the fact that Paramount is looking to get the ball rolling on Star Trek 3, and if Abrams wants to direct that film he may need to make a decision quickly before his old seat is filled.
