International Trailer for ZOOLANDER 2

The reboot and remake craze has gotten a little out of control, and news of a Zoolander sequel initially seemed like it could be a mistake. It’s been a little over 14 years since the original movie, and a lot about the world Zoolander satirizes has changed dramatically. But Zoolander 2, directed by star Ben Stiller and written by Stiller, Justin Theroux, Nicholas Stoller, and John Hamburg, seems to be using that to great effect, bringing Blue Steel and really, really, really, ridiculously good-looking people back into our world.

In the new international trailer, we get a lot of the same footage from before (the return of Owen Wilson has Hansel — so hot right now — as well as the introduction of newcomers Benedict Cumberbatch and Kristen Wiig), but we also get a little more background on Derek being in hiding from the fashion world, as well as Penelope Cruz’s character’s history. Check out the trailer below:

As promoting as I found the initial trailer, this one’s focus on Cruz’s chest size, feels a lot less heartening. Sure there’s going to be slapstick and low-brow humor, that’s all part of the major comedy release game. But what made the original Zoolander so smart and fun was its perceptive tear-down of the fashion and celebrity machine. (For instance, Hansel and Dereks’ reaction to Cruz’s Valentina lamenting that she was a swimsuit model who could never transition is genuinely funny. The flotation device line … not so much).

Still, there are lots of bright spots in the trailer, especially Cumberbatch as the non-gendered “All,” and the return of Will Ferrell as Mugatu. The film will also feature Fred Armisen, Kanye West, Olivia Munn, and a huge slew of celebrity appearances (including Billy Zane, of course).

Zoolander 2 is scheduled for release February 12th, 2016. Here’s the official “synopsis”:

3% Body Fat. 1% Brain Activity.
