Hot on the heels of the successful global launch of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, a new international trailer for the next film in the DC Expanded Universe has landed online. Suicide Squad promises to be a very different movie than Zack Snyder’s superhero epic, not only because it revolves around a ragtag team of villains, but the tone of the film appears to be much more joyous, or at least darkly comic, than Batman v Superman.

Fury and End of Watch helmer David Ayer serves as both writer and director on Suicide Squad, which is not lacking in the star department. Ayer assembled a tremendous ensemble to bring this particular comic to the big screen, which finds villains like suicide-squad-margot-robbit-adewale-akinnuoye-agbaje-600x401Deadshot (Will Smith), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), and Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) teaming up to tackle an unknown menace, with Jared Leto’s highly anticipated new take on The Joker also factoring into the plot in a mysterious fashion.

This new international trailer is essentially a shorter version of the film’s first official trailer, which debuted a few months ago and took the Guardians of the Galaxy route by upping the comedic and tongue-in-cheek factor. There are a couple of bits of new footage to glean here, especially as it relates to the superpowers of the titular team members, but it’s not a vastly fresh look at the film. However, with Batman v Superman now finally unveiled, Warner Bros. will be ramping up its Suicide Squad marketing campaign significantly, and I can’t wait to see what else this movie entails. I’ve got a good feeling about this one.

Check out the international trailer below, via Latino Review. The film also stars Joel Kinnaman, Cara Delevigne, Jay Hernandez, Jai Courtney, Ike Barinholtz, Scott Eastwood, Adam Beach, Karen Fukuhara, and Viola Davis. Suicide Squad opens in theaters on August 5th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Suicide Squad:

It feels good to be bad… Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?
