International TableTop Day

In case you missed it nerds and nerdlettes, this Saturday is International TableTop Day and all of us here at GeekLegacy couldn’t be more excited!

Now, I know we usually spend most of our time talking about video games, but that doesn’t mean we don’t also have an immense love of rolling dice and shuffling cards. So, for those of you that missed the event last year, there were over 3,100 official TableTop Day gaming events in 64 countries worldwide!

This Internet based holiday, the brain child of Wil Wheaton and the fine folks over at Geek & Sundry, is a celebration for all the fans of tabletop gaming, young or old. In their own words it is –

“A single day where the whole world is brought together in a common purpose of spending time together and having fun.”

Pretty simple huh? Whether you are playing an age old classic like Risk, spell-slinging some Magic: The Gathering Cards or discovering new lands in Settlers of Catan it doesn’t really matter. As long as you are turning off that video game console, sitting around a table and enjoying some camaraderie (and smack-talk) with friends you are celebrating it as intended!

Want to find a group of people, or a local gaming shop, so that you too can celebrate? Then head over to and check out the interactive map to find something local!

And if you don’t see an event near you, then create and host your own event!

Just make sure you get in all the action by hashtagging #tabletopday on all your posts, pictures, stories, and videos. One of the best things about these sorts of events is the virtual community is creates, if only for a day. You can also follow @TableTopDay on Twitter for updates and game day exclusives.

We are sending our own @TheMightyJerd all the way up to the distant land of Toronto (it is International TableTop Day after all) to celebrate and face off against some of the Geek & Sundry people in an epic clash of gaming, so make sure to check back next week for a recap and some videos of the event (or catch the livestream on Twitch from 2-5pm EST!)

Let us know in the comments below where you plan on celebrating and what games you are looking forward to playing!
