Horror Hound Sequel Challenge: Phantasm vs. Tucker & Dale

Sequels, sequels, sequels! We all know how much studios love sending them out in droves! This past weekend I had the opportunity once again to attend Horror Hound in Cincinnati and it was a total blast. While I was there a couple big announcements for sequels!

Phantasm V: The Ravager was, to put it mildly, completely unexpected. It’s not the most remembered or beloved of franchises so it really doesn’t strike me as a big money maker. But regardless of it’s popularity we are getting a fifth edition to the franchise. It will be the final entry in Don Coscarelli’s series.

Official Plot:

Reggie Bannister (a veteran of all five films) in his decades long pursuit of the malevolent Tall Man, and it finally forces him to confront the mysteries at the heart of the Phantasm saga. The entire original cast is back including Michael Baldwin, Bill Thornbury, Kat Lester and Angus Scrimm, along with some great new characters.

I am pretty indifferent to this series all together. Sure the Tall Man is creepy and the flying razor balls are pretty bad ass but as a whole the series isn’t very memorable and a bit confused on what it wanted to be. Seriously, is it aliens or supernatural elements? Pick one!

But I am a completest so I will be seeking Phantasm V out when it comes out. And when will that be? No official release date has been announced because it seems they are still working on the visual effects (ugh) but we did get a trailer! At least they retained the eerie score and Angus Scrimm as The Tall Man.

Tucker & Dale vs. Evil 2!

Next on the sequel train is Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil 2! It has been a few years since we saw the release of the first horror comedy staring Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine as the lovable rednecks we always seem to misinterpret in horror movies. Tucker & Dale was a great edition to the horror comedy sub-genre and a sequel is bound to get some laughs.

There isn’t a whole lot available on this sequel quite yet but you can check out the announcement for yourself below!
