Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug along with two new banners. The trailer is a huge step up from the previous offering in my opinion, and is loaded with action as well as the new plot threads including Legolas (Orlando Bloom) and Tauriel’s (Evangeline Lilly) love affair, and Bard (Luke Evans) warning Thorin (Richard Armitage) to stay away or else Smaug (voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch) will come to destroy everyone. We also get a listen to more Smaug dialogue, and unsurprisingly, Cumberbatch nails it. There’s a lot of good stuff in this trailer, and I hope it comes together to create a strong middle chapter for The Hobbit trilogy.

The film also stars Martin Freeman, Ian McKellan, John Bell, Jed Brophy, Adam Brown, John Callen, Stephen Fry, Ryan Gage, Mark Hadlow, Peter Hambleton, Stephen Hunter, William Kircher, Sylvester McCoy, Graham McTavish, Michael Mizrahi, James Nesbitt, Dean O’Gorman, Mikael Persbrandt, Ken Stott, and Aidan Turner. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug opens in 2D, 3D, and HFR 3D on December 13th.

The second in a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug continues the adventure of the title character Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) as he journeys with the Wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and thirteen Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) on an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor.

    • Be still my beating heart! I’ll sit through two hours of blah just to hear more of BC as Smaug.

Two hours? That’s cute, more like 3 and a half.

      • Haha, I meant I’ll sit through the first two hours of nothing to hear Smaug. Then I’ll go home.
