For those of you who thought that this was going to be the final season for True Blood, you’re either in for a happy or disappointing surprise. Apparently, the sixth season of HBO’s vampire-inspired drama is seeing enough numbers and rave reviews to justify yet another season. I guess they haven’t been reading Justin’s reviews.

Here’s what HBO had to say in their official press release:

HBO has renewed the hit show TRUE BLOOD for a seventh season, it was announced today by Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming. New episodes of the series will debut in summer 2014, with executive producer Brian Buckner returning as showrunner.

“TRUE BLOOD remains a signature show for HBO, and a true phenomenon with our viewers,” noted Lombardo. “Thanks to Brian Buckner and his talented team, the show continues to be a thrill ride like nothing else on TV.”

According to them, the sixth season is seeing over 10 million viewers every week, and TV critics are saying that the show is full of “suspense, surprises and crackling dialogue,” and also its “cheeky humor and vivid imagination are still there to relish.”

Not entirely sure that we here at Geek Legacy agree with that exactly, but as Jason said in his article, “Rationalizing True Blood,” there’s a reason that this soapy soft-core porn made it past its second season. It’s just so damn sexy!

In any case, True Blood fans will have yet another season to look forward to in the summer of 2014, so try to contain yourselves before then. In the meantime, let Justin know if you’d like to cover True Blood  reviews next year, because no doubt he’ll have zero interest in sticking with the show in 2014.

What are your thoughts on the renewal? Are you giddy with excitement, or totally over it?
