Last week, we learned that Harrison Ford had injured his ankle on a door of the Millennium Falcon during production on Star Wars: Episode VII, and appropriately, the jokes started flying. After all who doesn’t smirk when they see Harrison Ford run.  To be fair, it wasn’t a life-threatening injury, but nonetheless, you can kind of see where he’s coming from when it comes to his moderate disdain for Star Wars fans.  Disney released a statement saying that Ford was recuperating in a hospital and that shooting would continue.

Now we know the extent of Ford’s injury and how it will specifically affect the production. The film also stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker, Lupita Nyong’o, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, and Max von Sydow.  Star Wars: Episode VII opens December star-wars-harrison-ford-episode-4-600x52018, 2015.

First reported by the British tabloid The Mirror and confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, Ford will miss eight weeks of filming on the blockbuster sequel.  The actor reportedly has a major role in the movie, so this could be a bit of a headache for the production, which will have to find a way to accommodate one of its lead actors being out of commission.

Although losing one of your lead characters for two months may seem like a crushing blow, keep in mind that Robert Downey Jr. suffered a broken ankle on Iron Man 3, and was out for six weeks.  They dealt with it through body doubles and CGI magic.  The show must go on.

While this is unfortunate for Episode VII, my sympathy lies more with Ford, who is probably in some physical pain right now.  We wish him a speedy recovery, and I will give him a pass for being such a grumpy goose for the next 8 weeks.
