During Microsoft’s E3 Conference today, one of Microsoft’s stables for this Fall will unfortunately not make it. Halo Wars 2 has just been delayed till early next year. 343 Industries showcased a cinematic global trailer as well as a multiplayer trailer for it’s Open Beta.

Halo Wars 2 will continue the story of the crew of the Spirit of Fire deemed “lost with all hands” awakening above the Forerunner installation known as the Ark (last seen in Halo 3) and become embattled with the “Banished” led by a Brute Chieftain known as Atriox. The game is developed by Creative Assembly (Rome: Total War & Alien: Isolation) in association with 343 Industries.

The cinematic trailer seemed to focus mostly on each of the factions which includes Spirit of Fire’s personnel as well as the Brute remnant and the commanding of each armies. Blur Studios returns once again to animate the cutscenes within the game itself.

The multiplayer trailer shows actually in-game footage of battles that you can try out within the Beta that runs from now through June 20th.

Some of the game modes includes Skirmish, Strongholds, Blitz, Domination, and Deathmatch. The latter two being available to play in the Beta.

Playing the Beta itself can net you some gold REQ packs for use in Halo 5: Guardians, one for your first game, two more for for finishing your fifth.

The game will available in two flavors, standard regular and Ultimate Edition which will include Halo Wars: Definitive Edition. The remaster of the original game will include new graphics, more achievements, and all of the original DLC and will be playable for the first time on the Xbox One and Windows 10.

For those that want long term value there will be a season pass that includes, “more than six months of regular updates that include a campaign expansion with exclusive missions, new Leaders with abilities that change the course of multiplayer battles, new Units that add to your multiplayer arsenal, and more.”

Halo Wars 2 will be available February 21st and available on Xbox One and Windows 10.
