As the Warner Bros. presentation began in Hall H at Comic-Con this morning, the studio took an opportunity to tout its DC Comics Universe. A video played on the screens surrounding the audience that began with images of the various comics before touting the films that WB has scheduled coming up with concept art and logos:

While it was neat to get brief glimpses at concept art of Ezra Miller as The Flash (the film very much looks to be WB/DC’s “fun” superhero movie), the biggest news to come out of this video was that the Green Lantern reboot expected in 2020 will indeed be titled Green Lantern Corps.

For those unfamiliar with the comics, the title refers to the fictional military/police force made up of the various Green Lanterns across the universe, with two Green Lanterns assigned to each sector. This means that the new Green Lantern could be a superhero spin on a “buddy cop” film, and it jibes with recent casting rumors that have seen both Chris Pine and Tyrese Gibson in the mix for the role of Green Lantern—though those are still just rumors for now, and Warner Bros. didn’t use today’s Comic-Con panel as an opportunity to shed any light on where the casting of the film stands.

But we could hear soon. Zack Snyder is expected to start shooting the first Justice League movie next year for release in 2017, and he’ll presumably need a Green Lantern. Or it’s possible that character won’t arrive until Justice League Part Two. Either way, whenever the eventual Green Lantern movie does arrive, don’t expect a traditional one-man superhero pic. Green Lantern Corps. is imminent.
