The Legend of Zelda on Wii U at The Game Awards

Last night Nintendo fans were treated to a first look at gameplay footage for The Legend of Zelda on Wii U during the 2014 Game Awards held in Las Vegas, NV. Legendary game develeopers Shigeru Miyamoto and Eiji Anonuma appeared in a video providing a 4-minute walkthrough exploring some of the game’s new features. During the demo, you’ll get an idea of how large and beautiful the world of Hyrule truly is on Nintendo’s Wii U console.

The GamePad looks to be a useful tool for in-game mechanics such as looking through a spy-glass, marking waypoints and the ability to zoom in and out of the world map. Finally, we get to see Link reunited with Epona as he rides through a forest attacking enemies with his bow and vaulting off in slow-motion to attack his target from above. You might remember The Legend of Zelda announcement trailer from E3 2014, and how it ended with Link jumping from Epona to attack a giant spider from the air. At the time, that CG trailer just looked cool, but now that I know it’s something we can do in-game, it’s all the more special.

The Legend of Zelda on Wii U is due out sometime in 2015. However, Miyamoto teased that a new Star Fox game for Wii U will be available before The Legend of Zelda. Nintendo is going to kill it in 2015!
