George Lucas says he’s not interested in Indy 5

Fans of Indiana Jones can breath a sigh of relief, their nightmare may be over. Since having their childhood thrown out of a plane without a parachute or life raft when Crystal Skull hit the theaters, the Indy faithful have been flinching at any mention of another film. Like a scared kid on the playground when a bully raises his fist we just keep bracing for the impact. However, things might be looking up for us. According to longtime producing partner Frank Marshall in an interview with Collider, “He (Lucas) isn’t hungry to do another Indiana Jones. He has passed the baton over to my wife.” His wife is super producer Kathleen Kennedy, who has taken over the day to day operations at Lucasfilm since Lucas’ retirement. When asked about rumors that the 5th film already had a story Marshal responded, “We talk about it, but there’s no idea, there’s no MacGuffin.”

Without Lucas it is hard to imagine the franchise continuing. It always seemed to be a collaboration between the big 3; Lucas, director Steven Speilberg, and star Harrison Ford and without one of them I don’t think this train leaves the station. At least we got 2 great Indy flicks and the mine cart chase from Temple of Doom to look back on fondly.

What do you think of the news? Is this a good day? Did Crystal Skull kill it?

    • This makes me sad, but I think it's time to put this old dog down. I'd still be interested in seeing an Indy 5, but only if it's done right, just to get the bad taste of Crystal Skull out of my mouth.

And for more action figures, of course!
