Gangster Squad moved to January 11th

Warner Bros. has moved the release date of Gangster Squad from September 7th to January 11th. The studio released a statement saying that due to re-shoots the film would not be ready to deliver for a September 7th release.

Reshoots were quickly scheduled after the tragedy in Colorado last week, where an armed gunman opened fire in a sold out showing of The Dark Knight Rises, killing 12 and injuring many more. In Gangster Squad, there is a scene where someone shoots up a theater so Warner Bros., the backer of both films decided to remove/reshoot the scene.

The news is sure to raise awareness of Gangster Squad, but only time will tell if that translates into box office dollars. The 4 month change means that either it was tough to get everyone back with their busy schedules, or that the theater scene was a major scene.

Gangster Squad stars Ryan Gosling, Sean Penn, and Josh Brolin and is directed by Ruben Fleischer who directed Zombieland and 30 Minutes or Less.
