HBO has sent out the synopsis for the first episode of Game of Thrones Season 6, and it tells us virtually nothing. What’s more interesting is the episode’s title, “The Red Woman,” which may mean that someone is about to be reborn in fire … that someone likely being Jon Snow (Kit Harington). Remember that HBO is refusing the send out screeners before the new season starts, which leads one to believe that something huge is happening in the premiere … and my guess it may be that.

In a press release for the upcoming season, HBO “revealed” that:

“Jon Snow is dead. Daenerys meets a strong man. Cersei sees her daughter again.”

Ok so on and on with the Jon Snow is dead stuff. Enough already! The second line is more interesting … Dany (Emilia Clarke) meets a strong man. Does that potentially mean Strong Belwas? The character is a favorite among book readers, but had seemingly been cut from the TV show (although some believe that he had a cameo in Season 5 as a man cutting Peter game-of-thrones-season-5-finale-jon-snow1-600x338Dinklage’s Tyrion out of his chains). Last we saw, Dany was being captured (again …) by the Dothraki, so of course, there are plenty of strong men associated with them as well. So what it actually means depends how much credit you give HBO for puns.

As for Cersei (Lena Headey), it seems that Jamie (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) is back in Kings Landing with Myrcella (Nell Tiger Free), or at least her corpse. She seems to have perished last season after being poisoned by Ellaria (Indira Varma), which means that Tommen (Dean-Charles Chapman) is the last remaining Lannister/Baratheon child. Let’s just hope that Jamie and Cersei don’t have another forced sex scene next to the corpse of their child … again.

“The Red Woman” will be written by showrunners David Benioff and D. B. Weissand directed by Jeremy Podeswa. Here’s the official synopsis for the season, which starts Sunday, April 24th on HBO.

Following the shocking developments at the conclusion of season five, including Jon Snow’s bloody fate at the hands of Castle Black mutineers, Daenerys’ near-demise at the fighting pits of Meereen, and Cersei’s public humiliation in the streets of King’s Landing, survivors from all parts of Westeros and Essos regroup to press forward, inexorably, towards their uncertain individual fates. Familiar faces will forge new alliances to bolster their strategic chances at survival, while new characters will emerge to challenge the balance of power in the east, west, north and south.
