Game of Thrones draws 5.4 million viewers for their Season 3 finale

The extremely popular Game of Thrones closed out its third season this past Sunday (read Jerd’s recap here), and the finale episode scored a record audience of 5.4 million viewers for the episode’s first airing. That’s up 28% from the season two finale’s 4.2 million, but falls just a tad short of the show’s most-watched episode ever, which was this season’s sixth episode “The Climb,” clocking in at 5.5 million viewers. The third season has averaged 13.6 million viewers when factoring in repeating airings, DVR, and HBO Go, which makes Game of Thrones the most-watched HBO series since The Sopranos and is up considerably from season two’s average of 11.6 million viewers.

Proof positive that millions of people, the world over share my disdain and bored glazed over looks in regards to all Starks not named Arya. I mean admit it. When you saw Rob and his annoying mom get murdered you did one of those fist bumps and cheered. Their departure means we can have more screen time for the true heroes of Westeros… the Lannisters.

Season four, which will cover roughly the second half of author George R.R. Martin’s third book A Storm of Swords, will likely begin production this July, as has been the case with the previous seasons.

Hahaha I’m SOOOO happy that I’m not the only person who celebrated the Stark deaths!! Catelyn is horribly annoying. Robb is an overly sensitive Mama’s boy. Sensa is cry baby, father killer. Bran is the WORST. Rickon is completely useless. Arya is the only decent Stark besides Eddard. Team Lannisters Baby!!

        You guys are killing me.

      • So harsh! Yeah the Starks are a bit annoying at times, but their story is so tragic and sad! I just hope it later translates into some major payback.
