Fox’s New GOTHAM Series to Feature Characters From the Batman Universe

Posted on January 14, 2014 at 7:22 am by Liz Bohinc

It’s official. We’ll get Batman on television! At TCA’s today, Fox president Kevin Reilly announced that Gotham, a series in development, will in fact feature infamous Batman icons, both good and evil alike. That’s right! You can see The Penguin, The Joker, and many more on your television screen this fall.

GordonThe series, written by Bruno Heller (The Mentalist), primarily centers around Commissioner Gordon as he navigates Gotham’s criminal underworld. Unlike its Marvel counterpart, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., it’s nice to see that Gotham is going to embrace its expanded universe a bit more than expected. Why make up subpar characters when you can mine so many great ones from a 50+ year old mythology?

Though the series has not yet been ordered, Fox is abandoning pilot season in favor of straight-to-series orders. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for more good news and great casting announcements in the coming weeks.

What are you most looking forward to seeing in the Gotham series? I’m personally excited to see a lot of Pennyworth and Bruce Wayne banter.

I’m very interested in seeing if they bring in the Riddler…I think he would make an excellent TV Villain!
