20th Century Fox has released the first Exodus: Gods and Kings trailer for director Ridley Scott’s upcoming Biblical epic.  The film stars Christian Bale as Moses, focusing on the figure’s struggle to free his enslaved people from their ancient Egyptian rulers as Joel Edgerton fills the role of Ramses.  The trailer looks promising, and you can never go wrong by reminding us that Ridley Scott directed Gladiator.  The eyeliner is a bit thick, and it almost feels like there was no effort whatsoever put into making Bale and Edgerton look like they fit into the time period (or, you know, anything resembling Egyptians).  That said, the visuals are striking and Scott certainly appears to be going all-out with the whole “Biblical epic” moniker.

The film also stars Ben Kingsley, Aaron Paul, John Turturro, and Sigourney Weaver.  Exodus: Gods and Kings opens December 5, 2014.

Here’s the official synopsis for Exodus: Gods and Kings:

From acclaimed director Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Prometheus) comes the epic adventure “Exodus: Gods and Kings,” the story of one man’s daring courage to take on the might of an empire. Using state-of-the-art visual effects and 3D immersion, Scott brings new life to the story of the defiant leader Moses (Christian Bale) as he rises up against the Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses (Joel Edgerton), setting 600,000 slaves on a monumental journey of escape from Egypt and its terrifying cycle of deadly plagues.
