The first trailer for director Brett Ratner‘s Hercules, starring Dwayne Johnson as the titular Demigod, is now online.  The trailer features Hercules fighting off a lot of CGI monsters while grandiose narration builds up the big reveal of Johnson as the film’s hero.  It’s also a bit strange since the movie was previously billed as “a revisionist take on the classic myth set in a grounded world where the supernatural does not exist,” and I’m pretty sure I spotted a hydra and Cerberus.  I’m excited to see the 12 labor of Hercules play out in the film though, so I will forgive Ratner’s transgression.

The film also stars John Hurt, Ian McShane, Joseph Fiennes, Peter Mullan, Rufus Sewell, Robert Maillet, and Irina Shayk.  Hercules opens in 3D on July 25th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Hercules:

Paramount Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures’ film HERCULES, starring Dwayne Johnson, bows on July 25th.  Based on Radical Comics’ Hercules by Steve Moore, this ensemble-action film is a revisionist take on the classic myth, HERCULES. The epic action film also stars Golden Globe Winner Ian McShane, Rufus Sewell, Joseph Fiennes, Peter Mullan and Academy Award®-nominee John Hurt.
