First Trailer for GHOSTBUSTERS

The first trailer for director Paul Feig‘s Ghostbusters has been released online by Sony Pictures. Scripted by Feig and Katie Dippold, the long-developing reboot finds Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Kristen Wiig, and Leslie Jones taking over the franchise as four new characters with a knack for bustin’ ghosts. The trailer shows off each of the women’s distinct comedic style. But other aspects and comic beats just feel like a regular blockbuster, and we’ll have to see if is can distinguish itself as something more. The effects are certainly fascinating to break down … some of them are a spooky (the horde of ghosts), but some feel like a distinct visual homage to the original franchise, and I haven’t decided yet whether or not that’s a good thing.

So far, Leslie Jones looks like she’ll be the standout of the group, with Wiig and McCarthy taking more laid-back roles. As for McKinnon, well, she’s pretty much just the best. Check it all out below:

There are some things to really like about the trailer, and of course, let’s definitely note the appearance of Slimer into the mix (as well as ghost vomit) as linking the original franchise with this one (not to mention, of course, the Ecto-1 in full glory). The four leads seem to have great chemistry, too, and all in all it looks like it’ll be a fun (and maybe a little bit spooky) movie, which ultimately, is really all it needs to be.

The film also stars Chris Hemsworth, Andy Garcia, Michael Kenneth Williams, Matt Walsh, Charles Dance, and Cecily Strong, Ghostbusters opens in theaters on July 15, 2016.

Here’s the official logline:

Thirty years after the original film took the world by storm, Ghostbusters is back and fully rebooted for a new generation.  Director Paul Feig combines all the paranormal fighting elements that made the original franchise so beloved with a cast of new characters, played by the funniest actors working today.  Get ready to watch them save the world this summer!
