Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for director Marc Webb’s sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and it’s a doozy.  The clip emphasizes the burden on Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), as he explains in voiceover: “The more people I try to save, the more enemies I will make.  And it’s just a matter of time before I face those with more power than I can overcome.”  Sounds like a set-up for the rumored Sinister Six movie, and 1:14 into the trailer shows us a very recognizable set of opposable arms and a set of wings.  There’s just a bit of footage of Jamie Foxx as the new villain Electro, but the trailer closes with an amazing looking battle that promises a nice match between our agile hero and the seemingly teleportable villain.

Emma Stone, Dane DeHaan, Paul Giamatti, Felicity Jones, Chris Cooper, and Sally Field also star.  The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens in 3D on May 2, 2014.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Amazing Spider-Man 2:

In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.
