The first clip from director Kimberly Peirce’s horror remake Carrie has just been released by Screen Gems.  For those unfamiliar with the story, it centers on a bullied teenage girl (played by Chloe Grace Moretz) who discovers she has telekinetic powers, and decides to dish out retribution against her tormentors including her abusive mother (played by Julianne Moore).  This clip showcases a few of the hallmarks from Brian De Palma’s original film, as we see Moore’s character lock young Carrie up in the closet, which is adorned with religious imagery.

The film also stars Ansel Elgort, Portia Doubleday, Gabriella Wilde, and Alex Russell.  Carrie opens in theaters on October 18th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Carrie:

A reimagining of the classic horror tale about Carrie White (Chloë Grace Moretz), a shy girl outcast by her peers and sheltered by her deeply religious mother (Julianne Moore), who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom.

Based on the best-selling novel by Stephen King, Carrie is directed by Kimberly Peirce with a screenplay by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.
