Disney and Pixar have unveiled a brand new trailer for the highly anticipated sequel Finding Dory. Director Andrew Stanton returns to helm the follow-up, which finds Dory (Ellen Degeneres) suddenly remembering details about her family, which spurs her on a life-changing adventure to go and find them, during which she runs across a host of new characters like Hank the octopus (Ed O’Neill) and Destiny the nearsighted whale shark (Kaitlin Olson).

And frankly, that’s just the tip of the iceberg of the list of new characters that are gleaned in this latest trailer. Most notably, there’s Idris Elba as Fluke the Sea Lion, who has one of the better jokes of the trailer when revealing why Sea finding-dory-600x338Lions bark so much, and we also get to see the return of Crush, the helpful sea turtle voiced by Stanton himself. What’s most pleasant about this trailer, however, is that it doesn’t seem like this sequel will only be about the new additions and a rehashing of familiar plot points. There’s an interesting story being outlined here, about how communities are often required to fill in for families, and how they are ultimately not all that different.

Coupled with Dory’s origin story, this amps up anticipation for the Finding Nemo sequel, which looks better than Monsters University and will inevitably be more endurable than Cars 2. Whether we’re talking something as startlingly original as Toy Story 2 & 3 is yet to be seen, but I hold out hope for this one. Written by Stanton and Victoria Strouse, the film also features the voices of Albert Brooks, Dominic West, Diane Keaton, Eugene Levy, Bill Hader, and Kate McKinnon. Finding Dory opens in theaters on June 17th, and you can check out the new trailer right below.

Here’s the official synopsis for Finding Dory:

Disney•Pixar’s “Finding Dory” welcomes back to the big screen everyone’s favorite forgetful blue tang Dory (voice of Ellen DeGeneres), who’s living happily in the reef with Marlin (voice of Albert Brooks) and Nemo (voice of Hayden Rolence). When Dory suddenly remembers that she has a family out there who may be looking for her, the trio takes off on a life-changing adventure across the ocean to California’s prestigious Marine Life Institute, a rehabilitation center and aquarium. In an effort to find her mom (voice of Diane Keaton) and dad (voice of Eugene Levy), Dory enlists the help of three of the MLI’s most intriguing residents: Hank (voice of Ed O’Neill), a cantankerous octopus who frequently gives employees the slip; Bailey (voice of Ty Burrell), a beluga whale who is convinced his biological sonar skills are on the fritz; and Destiny (voice of Kaitlin Olson), a nearsighted whale shark. Deftly navigating the complex inner workings of the MLI, Dory and her friends discover the magic within their flaws, friendships and family.
