Just today, TV Guide put out their Fall 2013 TV Scorecard, which details their forecasts for what’s going to make it to the 2013 fall season. To my chagrin, but probably Justin’s joy, Arrow, Supernatural, and The Vampire Diaries are slated to come back in the fall, which he already reported on earlier todayThe fantasy genre seems to be doing well for the CW, so they’re probably going to renew Beauty and the Beast too, though that hasn’t been confirmed yet.

Some other geeky favorites that have already been renewed include The Big Bang TheoryFamily GuyBonesand How I Me Your Mother, though I think I probably speak for most when I say that the majority of these shows have gotten a bit tired in their age. Going back to the fantasy front, Grimm  and Once Upon a Time are both seeing pretty good ratings, so it’s likely that they’ll be back for a third season, though there’s no definite news yet on their renewal. Despite the fact that it’s received a lukewarm reception, Revolution also looks like it might get another season.

TV Guide put Community on their “Too Soon To Tell” list, but I think it’s probably safe to say that the series is on its last season given the uncertainty that’s surrounded its existence over the past year. Plus, the fact that NBC continually pushed back its return date does not bode well for the cult favorite. Plus plus, the showrunner and creator, Dan Harmon, was fired with hardly a word; so if that’s not  harbinger of doom, I don’t know what is. Plus plus plus, Chevy Chase was very vocal in November about leaving the show, and not many shows that are doing well see one of their biggest stars up and leave in the middle of a season.

As for the rest of the list, I singled out the shows below that I think the Geek Legacy community would be the most interested in. For a complete list of what TV Guide thinks is coming back and what’s not, check it out their Fall 2013 TV score card right here.

On the cancelled/series ending front, this is the end for 30 RockFringeGossip Girl, and The Office, but we knew that already. I can’t say I’m particularly thrilled about the forecast for any of the returning shows. To be honest, nothing on the major networks really keeps me coming back for more, except maybe The Following. Unfortunately, I can’t watch too much of that show without getting bad dreams! I know, I’m a wimp. The shows I’m genuinely excited for are on the cable networks, like Game of ThronesThe Walking DeadBreaking Bad, and Doctor Who. Network television just doesn’t do it for me anymore.

What do you think of the fall 2013 TV forecast so far? Which shows are you hoping come back for another season, and which ones are you keeping your fingers crossed that they get the axe?

    • Modern Family, The Mindy Project, New Girl, and The Following are all fun shows to watch. I hope they all return. I'm pretty excited about Arrow and Supernatural coming back for another season as well.
