Eccleston Will Not Appear In Doctor Who 50th

Posted on April 6, 2013 at 2:04 pm by Jess Hicks

We received news that David Tennant (10th Doctor) and Billie Piper (former companion) would for sure be in the 50th Anniversary episode last week. This week we get the unfortunate news that the 9th Doctor, Christopher Eccleston, has officially passed on being involved. Though he was only the Doctor for one season he was still many Whovian’s introduction to the series.

There has been rumor that he wasn’t on board but nothing was official until now. It seems that Eccleston is still not on good terms with the creators and doesn’t plan on being involved ever again. Read his statement below to see his thoughts on the show:

I left because of politics. I did not see eye to eye with them. I didn’t agree with the way things were being run. I didn’t like the culture that had grown up around the series. So I left, I felt, over a principle.

It is somewhat disheartening that the Doctor who brought the show back in 2005 doesn’t like what it has become but I suppose there is always someone who won’t be happy. At least we have the assurance that Tennant and Piper will be back and hopefully others will join as well.

What do you guys think? Will you miss Eccleston? Leave a comment below!

    • What a party pooper! Oh well, I never watched his season anyway, haha. I started with Smith, and then just watched Tennant because my friend was way into him. Totally skipped the 9th doctor!

You didn't miss much, he is angry and that's about it. Rose is really annoying and so is her mom and ex-boyfriend. I'm not a big fan of him but that still sucks that he doesn't like "the culture", whatever that means.

        • Man, I gotta say one of my all time favorite lines came from the 9th Doctor. It was Season 1, Episode 6 "Dalek."

"They're never gonna come. Your race is dead. You all burned… all of you. 10 million ships on fire. The entire Dalek race wiped out in one second. I watched it happen. I made it happen."

BOOM! That's bad ass. That's actually what made me a fan of Doctor Who in the first place. Sad to hear how he feels about the show. Oh well, he did go on to play Destro in G.I. Joe. So he's got that going for him.

He will always be Raymond Calitri to me, and that makes him awesome!!!

I like dark doctors, more than childish ones, therefor I will miss him.
